“A mirror is harder to hold”

by MidnightReverie on Jul.08, 2008, under Articles, Japanese Cuisine, Music, Rambling, Web

Stuff happened, not going to explain, since it isn’t going to bring any changes… I’ll just keep moving on and do my best!

Unfolding the story

From now on the chapters will be long, as in over 6000 words at least… so I’m aiming to release one chapter a month. I must say it has been a good training to get out of my procrastination habits… and it’s still fun in comparison to a few years back when I couldn’t even get past the third chapter for multiple chapter stories.

The greatest stumbling block is yet again English, I re-check the text many times, even if they were published months ago. I keep re-reading the previous parts for inconsistencies, spelling & grammar issues and various others as far as my knowledge goes. I suppose I should get a beta-reader for the finalized version of Twofold, because I’m still not happy with chapters 1-3  and that is why they will be given a overhaul.

MBTI and characters

Well, it seems like people want me to write something on “Lin doing a MBTI analysis of the SPR cast”. Fun! I’ve taken some interest in the various personality types. Lin himself is definitely an Introvert, more so than any other of the characters in the show… therefore he almost seems like a blank slate. With an NT temperament, obviously… he probably hangs in between Judging and Perceiving. So… INTP or INTJ? I suppose when compared to Naru he probably is an INTP, Lin is way more laid back than him lol. Ah well, but that’s for later…

Soup and clients

This was my first time using Windows Live Writer, the reason I downloaded the client is that I’m not fond of using browser-based blogging, despite using Opera and it being the best browser ever!!1 This is also the only reason the photo of self-made Udon Miso soup is at the left, for lightbox testing purposes (Thankfully it worked, but I’m still leaving it here heh). I need to remind myself to buy some more instant packages until I find out where to get the dried versions in one of those Chinese stores.

…and back to the story again!

What’s with the subject title anyway? Well, it’s going to appear in the appear in the aforementioned chapter as a code phrase… this phrase is a title of a song by my favorite lyricist, the lyrics come after this:

A Mirror Is Harder To Hold

You could stay a while longer
We could stay up and talk about last summer
We could go down to the water
Watch the sunset going under
It’s not that I’m a stranger to lonely moments
I’ve had my share of those
Please don’t go
Please don’t leave me alone
A mirror is so much harder to hold

I could try and point the finger
But the glass points in my direction
Sure you’ve got your sharp edges
But my wounds are for my own reflection
You’ve got nothing I could ever hold against you
I’ve got fatal flaws to call my own
Please don’t go
Please don’t leave me alone
A mirror is so much harder to hold

I met a man who’s looking for perfection
Said he’d never met a girl who’s good enough
His eyes are getting old like they’d love to love again
Such a lonely man
Such a lonely man

I see him in my reflection
Taking steps towards me these days
So I hold you that much closer
And pray we don’t throw this away
It’s not that I’m a man who couldn’t love you
I know what these arms are for
Please don’t go
Please don’t leave me alone
A mirror is so much harder to hold
A mirror is so much harder to hold
Please don’t go
Please don’t leave me cold
A mirror is so much harder to hold

The song was released not too long ago, but it inspired me a lot to go for the ending I had in mind for the story. It’s from Jon Foreman’s latest EP called Summer. Yes, the end. I’m surely finishing this… it will be my first completed story ever and I will be darned proud of it (despite the clumsiness and inconsistency of it all).  As you might expect it’s going to be a bit unconventional, but it’s something I foresee not to write well D:

Lastly, I’m thinking of giving my regular reviewers a “thank you gift” in form of fanart or omake when the story comes to an end. ^^ Which one would you like…? First, I suppose I should get back to writing that long chapter again hehe.

Originality?

Witness here a word cloud of sorts of the most recent summaries and genres in the Ghost Hunt Fanfiction section. I took it from the rss feed and pretty much filtered out a lot things (stuff like ‘Updated’) The most prevalent themes are as you can see in the picture.

The result isn’t shocking in the least for someone who has been through the entire archive (ahem): the generic GH fanfic contains Romance, Naru, Mai, Humor, (General,) SPR.

Don’t worry, I am guilty of this cliché too, but it’s my number one complaint as well. Ah well, you can’t stop people from writing the same things over and over again when they like it, and you can’t force them to write something they don’t like, but some change would be nice.

………..yeah, I’m bored.
